$2.00

We have a software upgrades available
V 3.2.2 and later will allow the user to select their drive and brake frequency to help extend the life of motors when exceeding their rated voltage. The software will come set to 10KHz for drive and 1KHz for braking, this has been tested and is a good balance between performance and longevity.

You will receive a new micro controller with the new software, you simply pull the old one out of the socket and insert the new one and you reconfigure with your desired changes.

*Make sure you are selecting the correct software for the board you are have. The software is not compatible between boards.

Check what version of software you currently have to determine if you need an upgrade.

Software Versions:

Version 3.1.0 - We recommend upgrading to the latest version to. If your Speedy Squirrel controller was shipped before 9/2702025 you have this software version

Version 3.2.2 - An upgrade is not necessary but an upgrade will have better timing performance for accelerating and braking.

Version 3.3.0 - This is the latest version, any Speedy Squirrel controllers shipped on 9/30/2025 will have this version. Minor timing changes were made from V 3.2.2 to improve throttle response.

Version 3.4.0 - Units shipped on or after 10/1/2025 will come with this version. Additional code optimization was made from V3.3.0 to improve response time with very low ramp up times (Recommend updating if you want to ramp to 100% within 250 ms of pressing the pedal)

If you determined you need / want a software upgrade. Request a new programmed micro controller and proceed to this step.

  • If you were happy with the configuration before changing the software, take screen shots of the home and setup page. Note that the timing values will change from V3.2.2 and earlier to V3.3.0.

  • Take Note of where all wire connections are made

  • Disconnect power and confirm the unit is OFF

  • Remove the 4 screws shown on the backside of the controller. There is no need to disconnect wires and remove from the car if you have enough room.

  • Gently pull straight up on the Micro Controller circled in Red, it does not take a lot of force to remove the controller from the socket.

  • Inspect the new micro controller for any pins that may have been bent during shipping, if any are not aligned, gently bend them back straight, be careful not to break them, they can only bend back and forth a couple times.

  • Insert the new Micro Controller in the slot the old one was removed from. Pay attention to the arrow on the board indicating the direction the USB port faces.

  • Reinstall the cover using the original 4 screws. Be careful when tightening the screws, the holes are not meant for repeated removal and installation.

  • Confirm all wires are in the same location they were in before you started and none have pulled out a little.

  • Power ON and reconfigure the way you had it before. Remember if you do not have a throttle pedal, you must disable it before it will work, the controller needs a direction to drive the motors.
